The first Altrusa Club was organized April 11, 1917, in Nashville Tennessee. Altrusa became an international organization in June 1935. Over 8,000 Altrusans belong to many clubs throughout the world and work together to make the world a brighter place.
Altrusa of Macomb was organized by the Extension Committee of the Galesburg IL Club. The organizational dinner was held March 24, 1961, and the charter was presented November 29, 1961.
The Altrusa Club of Macomb is a member of District Six, which includes clubs in the states of Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. Being a leader in rendering service means accepting and following through with our responsibilities.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this club shall be:
- To cultivate friendly relationships, promote mutual understanding, foster the solidarity of women who are actively engaged in business and the professions.
- To encourage high ethical standards of business and professional conduct.
- To give vocational information and to be of service to both young and mature women already engaged in or entering business or professional fields.
- To encourage participation in community and public affairs on a nonpartisan basis.
- To do any and all things conducive to the service, betterment, and ultimate welfare of women in business and the professions.
- To promote educational and cultural training and improvement.
- To be informed on international affairs and to promote mutual understanding between peoples of all nations.
